Partly Cake-y with a Chance of Disaster

I've already mentioned (lamented?) the lack of Cake-tacular Talent in my area. And I think we are going to have to go out of our budget to get the cake we want.

This is what I love about the two of us-- we have no freaking clue as to colors, locations, flowers, dresses, bridesmaids.... everything that is particularly important in a wedding.

But you know what we've got? The cake.

We want a book cake. A Nerdy Cake of Goodness and Knowledge. I believe one of these is a Colette (from Colette's Cakes) creation, but I googled these to find them, so I'm not entirely sure.

We want our cake to be a representation of us-- so the titles will be books or plays that are special to us (or have a nice meaning).

Ex: All's Well That Ends Well, The Hobbit, Lost in A Good Book

I love this idea. It is truly "us". Since one or both of us have majored in English, taught classes, dabbled in dramaturgy-- this just seems ideal. It will have the detail work that I adore in most wedding cakes, and each book can be a different flavor which will satisfy Deb's desire for the most delicious wedding cake of all time.

Here are the problems we are having with the idea that maybe you can help out with:

1. Cake Topper-- We think we want one (not a 'traditional' one) but something
2. Book Titles-- That don't sound bad! We both love the book Thursday Next: First Among Sequels, but on a wedding cake? Sounds sort of wrong.
3. It could all go horribly wrong. (--->) While this cake is adorable for a going away party, as a wedding cake? no no, my friends. No no!

What are you folks doing for a cake? Or are you doing cake?
Any pointers?

Also, random blogging question-- If I reply to one of *your* comments, do you get a notification?

Happy Thursday!

I just found your blog so I don't know if it's too late. Search out: www.cakecentral.com.

It's an awesome source of inspiration with thousands of cakes!

Found you via Practical Wedding... I'm not sure what you had in mind in regards of a topper but what about a bookend? Assuming it doesn't have to be a different material, I recall seeing some beautiful bookends before and thought those might be an inspiration. Or not :)
